FAIRYTAIL

A 17-year-old celestial wizard named Lucy Heartfilia runs away from home to join Fairy Tail, a rambunctious wizards' guild whose members are infamous for their overly destructive antics. Along the way, she meets Natsu Dragneel, a boy who is traveling the land of Fiore together with his partner Happy, a talking cat, in search of his foster parent, a dragon named Igneel who had disappeared without a trace seven years prior. Shortly after their meeting, Lucy is abducted by a wizard claiming to be the famous Salamander of Fairy Tail. Natsu rescues Lucy and reveals himself to be the real Salamander and a Dragon Slayer, a wizard with the abilities of a dragon. Natsu offers membership to Fairy Tail for Lucy, which she accepts.
Lucy forms a team together with Natsu and Happy, as well as Gray Fullbuster, an ice wizard with a habit of stripping, and Erza Scarlet, an armored female wizard. The five go on missions for their guild together and battle a wide variety of villains, which include: multiple dark (illegal) guilds led by an organization called Baram Alliance; demons created by an ancient, evil wizard named Zeref; Phantom Lord, a rival guild to Fairy Tail; Erza's former childhood friend Jellal Fernandes; and Laxus Dreyar, the renegade grandson of Fairy Tail's master, Makarov. The Fairy Tail guild also sees the inclusion of two other Dragon Slayers—Gajeel Redfox from the Phantom Lord guild and Wendy Marvell from the Caitshelter guild—who were both raised by dragons (Metalicana and Grandeeney, respectively) that disappeared on the same day as Igneel.
Later on in the series, several members of Fairy Tail, including Natsu, Lucy, and their friends, gather for an annually held examination on their guild's sacred ground of Tenrou Island, where they discover that Zeref has been living on the island and is being sought out by one of the guilds of the Baram Alliance, Grimoire Heart. Though Fairy Tail defeats Grimoire Heart, the incident summons the black dragon Acnologia, which attacks the island. However, everyone on the island is protected by the spirit of Fairy Tail's founding master, Mavis Vermillion, and reappears seven years later.

Natsu Dragneel
Natsu Dragneel is the main male protagonist of the series and a member of the Fairy Tail Guild. He is frequently partnered with fellow Fairy Tail members Happy, Lucy Heartfilia, Gray Fullbuster, and Erza Scarlet.

He is commonly known to the public as a powerful mage called "The Salamander". But this title has started to fade as the series progresses.

Natsu's most prominent features are his spiky rosy-colored hair and his signature scaly white scarf which may have been given to him by Igneel. Natsu has a scar on the right side of his neck which may be the reason he wears his scarf almost all the time. How he got the scar is yet to be revealed. He has no separate eye color, his eyes instead being solely the color of his black pupils. Natsu is of regular height, and his body is toned but not noticeably muscular. His member's stamp is located at the top of his right arm, just below his shoulder.

Natsu has a carefree and reckless nature and, despite his constant brawls with the other members of the guild, is a fiercely loyal and protective friend. He has a particularly close, and competitive relationship with fellow members; Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet. With the former, he has had a constant rivalry with from a young age and although they often denounce each other as being friends, they regularly watch each others' back nonetheless they are enraged with one another. He has had the same sort of relationship with Erza - the two both being scared of her since a young age - and they seemed to have a fairly good relationship in the past as, according to Erza, they used to shower together. He befriends rather quickly too, considering Lucy a friend and willing to team up with only after a few days of knowing her.

Natsu's father had left him when he was young. Igneel, a dragon, found him in the forest and ended up taking care of him. He taught Natsu how to speak, read, and use magic. But one day Igneel disappeared. This made Natsu look forward to the next time that they would meet.

  Lucy Heartfilia
Lucy is a 17 year-old mage and the main female character of Fairy Tail. She is the newest member of Fairy Tail guild, joining at the start of the main story line. Lucy's member stamp is located on the back of her right hand. Her measurements are B:88 W:59 H:88.

At the beginning of the series, Lucy is an independent novice mage searching for a mage guild to join, particularly interested in Fairy Tail, which she claims as the strongest mage guild. Though she tells Happy she considered joining Fairy Tail's rival guild, Phantom Lord, due to their similar outrageous nature and personality, she is content with her decision of joining Fairy Tail. After being rescued by Natsu from the slave ship, she is invited to join the guild. Once joining Fairy Tail, Lucy becomes a member of Natsu's team.

Lucy is one of the saner and more stable members of Fairy Tail, having common sense that other members of the guild seem to lack. She consistently points out Natsu's and others' idiocy. Lucy is also very confident in her appearance and sexiness, exuding a certain amount of vanity. Despite this superficial attitude, Lucy is passionate for literature and is in the process of writing her own novel about her adventures with Fairy Tail. She is a member of the Heartphilia family, one of the richest and most influential conglomerate families in the country of Fiore. However, due to her estranged relationship with her father and the death of her mother, she left home to follow her own path.

It should also be noted that she was the only other person who had ever shut Gray and Natsu up without beating them up first. Natsu and Gray seem a little scared of her when she's under the weather, even if Lucy's magic is not as strong as theirs and can't force them into submission like Erza.

Lucy practices Stellar Spirit magic, a skill which allows her to summon spirits from another world using Keys of the Gates. Her Stellar Spirits have varying levels of power, with different ones suited for different tasks. For example, Aquarius can control water, while Taurus has enormous strength. Along with her keys, she also carries a whip, which she is proficient with. Lucy explains to Natsu that Stellar Spirit mages have the potential to obtain extremely rare Gold Keys, which open the gates of the "Ecliptic Zodiac", and common, store-bought Silver keys. Each gold key has the Zodiac symbol of the one it is used to summon on it. According to Lucy, while there are large number of silver keys, there are only 12 gold keys. Thus far in the series, Lucy has obtained 10 Gold Keys and 4 Silver Keys. She also summoned all of her Gold keys (5 of them at the time) and Plue at once, although it only lasted a few seconds, it showed her to be very powerful. Loki's previous owner was a very powerful mage, yet she could not summon more than one at a time.

She is the daughter of Heartfillia Konzern, daughter of one of the wealthiest families in her country. Her father went bankrupt due to some reason and her father went to work in a guild, where he met Lucy's mother.

Gray Fullbuster

Gray Fullbuster is a member of the Fairy Tail guild. He is an 18 year-old ice mage, practicing ice alchemy, the art of molding ice. Due to his training history, he is most comfortable in little clothing and often forgets to wear clothes or quickly takes it off, thus often being accused of being an exhibitionist. He and Natsu have a friendly rivalry, and can often be seen fighting one another. Lucy believes the nature of his magic is the reason that he and Natsu constantly bicker. His member stamp is on the right side of his chest.

Erza Scarlet

Erza Scarlet  also known by the nickname "Fairy Queen, Titania" is one of the main female protagonists. She is a 19-year-old S-Class wizard, a high-ranked wizard who is usually tasked with performing extremely dangerous missions, and the most powerful female member of the guild. Her name was derived from Eru, a character from the one-shot manga created by Hiro Mashima that served as a pilot for Fairy Tail. She specializes in a form of magic called "the Knight"  which allows her to immediately summon and equip different swords, armor, and clothing from hammerspace at will using a magic ability called "requipping". She also has an artificial right eye, which replaces the one she lost as a child while forced to build the Tower of Heaven, and grants her immunity from illusions and other magical effects that occur through eye contact. She acts as Fairy Tail's disciplinarian and does not hesitate to punish anyone who disregards the rules of her guild, for which she is feared by her fellow guildmates. However, she is not without compassion towards her friends, and becomes more open to their antics as the series progresses. She is a childhood friend of Jellal Fernandes, another child slave from the Tower of Heaven, who later betrayed her after being brainwashed into becoming a servant of Zeref. Despite Jellal's betrayal, Erza is shown to have feelings for him, and eventually forgives him after he develops amnesia and shows remorse for his actions.

 Happy

Happy  is a 6-year-old talking cat with blue fur who serves as Natsu's best friend and initial partner before Lucy's inclusion in the Fairy Tail guild. Hiro Mashima originally planned to name him "Freyr" after the Norse god, but found the name did not fit his character.[ He possesses a magical ability called Aera , which allows him to temporarily grow white feathered wings on his back and fly. He is only able to carry up to one person at a time in this form. He was found as an egg six years prior to the start of the series by Natsu, who cared for him together with Lisanna until he hatched. He is generally cheerful as per his name, and often utters phrases such as "Aye!" or "Aye, sir!". He has a crush on Carla, who initially doesn't reciprocate his feelings. It isn't until later in the series that Happy discovers he is an exceed originally sent from Edolas to Earthland as an egg for his own protection after the exceeds' queen, Shagotte, had a premonition of their realm's destruction. While in Edolas, Happy encounters an exceed farmer named Lucky  and his wife Merl  who, unbeknownst to Happy, are his parents.

Shakugan no Shana

Yuji Sakai, a high school student, expected his very normal life to last forever. However, this expectation is quickly shattered one day while on his way home. The world suddenly freezes in time, leaving Yuji to watch in horror as blue flames engulf the people around him. Soon a monster resembling a large doll appears and begins sucking the flames into its mouth, until it notices Yuji. Surprised with Yuji's insusceptibility to the time-stop (fuzetsu), it jumps with glee. Just as the monster prepares to consume Yuji, a sword-wielding girl in black attire with flaming red eyes and hair appears, swiftly and confidently destroys the monster, before noticing Yuji moving freely. The girl calls herself a "Flame Haze" who hunts the "Denizens of the Crimson Realm" and the "Rinne" they send to do their bidding. When Yuji notices a blue flame in his chest, the Flame Haze tells him that the "real" Yuji died some time ago, and that he is a "Torch", a temporary replacement for erased humans. Torches take on the forms of those erased persons, but after a period of time, they will vanish from existence and the memories of the living. Unfazed by his apparent death, Yuji befriends the strange girl and names her "Shana" after her sword. The reason Yuji was able to move in the fuzetsu is that he is not a normal Torch, but instead a special kind called a "Mystes": he has a treasure inside him, known as a "Hougu", a device possessing special abilities of sorts, and an extremely powerful and valuable one at that. The hougu inside Yuji allows him to remain in existence rather than fading away like other torches. Shana resolves to protect Yuji from the Denizens, who would use the treasure to disrupt the balance of the world, and Yuji decides to join Shana in her fight.
Shana's fight is actually a long-standing struggle between the Lords and Denizens of Guze. The Denizens steal Power of Existence, the energy that forms the basis of the world, from living people and utilize it for their own selfish ambitions. Some Lords inhabit humans creating Flame Hazes in an attempt to retain balance by hunting renegades from Guze. Flame Hazes create Torches in place of the consumed to save the world from the disruption of many existences being lost at once, allowing the Torches to gradually burn out over the course of time.

Yuji Sakai (Mystes) / "Silver the Second"

Yuji, the main male lead of the series, is just an average high school student. However, his world is turned upside down when he discovers that he is already dead and does not have much time before he disappears. Fortunately, Yuji is a Mystes who contains a treasure known as the Reiji Maigo (零時迷子?, "Midnight Lost Child"). Unlike normal torches, the treasure inside him restores his Power of Existence every night at midnight. With the Reiji Maigo, Yuji has the possibility to live on like an average human as long as he makes sure that his Power of Existence does not run out before midnight. Later, he begins to learn to use the yet untapped potential of the treasure kept within him. Once he began using this power, the antagonists recognize him as "Silver the Second". He cares deeply about Shana, but does not make any advances in their relationship due to his feelings of inferiority as a Torch and his view of Shana as someone who is beyond his reach. He also starts to see Shana from her old former perspective of the world, where he is just a Torch and she is just a Flame Haze. With this going on, he distanced himself from the closeness that the two originally shared, leaving Shana hurt with the new feelings of love she has developed but cannot explain. However, Yuji and Shana have since repaired the damage to their relationship. As of volume 16 of the novel series, he has verbally acknowledged that he is in love with her.

 Shana "Flame-hairedBlazing-eyed Hunter"

The main female lead of the series and a Flame Haze. Initially she is concentrated solely on her duty as a Flame Haze, going as far as to not bearing even a name. She initially sees Yuji only as a Torch, an object, and is marginally interested only because of his status as a Mystes. However, she slowly opens up to Yuji, coming to think of him as a person, despite being a Torch, and eventually comes to love him. Until she met Yuji, she was identified by only her Flame Haze title "Flame-Haired Blazing-Eyed Hunter," or her nodachi, Nietono no Shana (贄殿遮那?, "Vairocana of the Offering Room"). Yuji, in his need to humanize her, chose to name her "Shana" after her sword. Shana has a habit of saying "Urusai! Urusai! Urusai!" which means "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" whenever Yuji asks her questions or makes remarks that disturb her original point of view. But in reality they really care for each other. She has a great fondness for melon bread. Shana later comes to the startling conclusion that she loves Yuji, and even confesses it to him in the last episode of the first anime series when she thought she was going to die, but he does not hear what she said. Shana is continually torn between her mission to protect the balance, and her love for Yuji. Due to a decision she made near the end of the first season of the anime version, the closeness they once had begun to erode as Yuji kept a distance from her because of it. Yuji adopts a viewpoint similar to Shana's in the beginning of the series. However, Yuji comes to realize that he was wrong, and their relationship seems to be restored.
